My Holiday Experience
Dublin stole our hearts years ago… and somehow it keeps doing it again. For my birthday trip, we packed in three nights of exploring, laughing, eating, drinking, and discovering just how effortlessly this city knows how to charm you. If you’re thinking of a 2–3-night break, Dublin absolutely delivers.
Getting Into Dublin – Quick, Simple & Stress-Free
One of the best things about Dublin is how easy it is to get from the airport into the city.
The local Airlink / Dublin Express buses run constantly, drop you right in the centre, and cost next to nothing compared to airport taxis. In under 30 minutes you’re checked in, bag dropped, and already planning your first pint. They run early, late, and pretty much whenever you need them – simple.
Dublin Zoo – A Surprisingly Big Day Out
Dublin Zoo is much bigger than you expect, tucked inside the beautiful Phoenix Park.
We wandered from elephants to penguins, then into the African Savanna where giraffes and rhinos stroll around like they own the place. It’s well kept, full of space, and makes for an easy, relaxed half-day if you want something fun without rushing around.
The Guinness Storehouse – A Proper Icon
The Guinness Storehouse tour is honestly one of the most interactive attractions we’ve ever done.
You walk through seven floors of brewing history, massive vats, sensory rooms, fun visuals and hands-on displays. It all builds up to the finale: the Gravity Bar.
Up here you sip your complimentary pint of Guinness with a 360° panoramic view across Dublin.
Whether you’re a Guinness lover or not, it’s the atmosphere and the experience that make it worth every second.
Irish Rock & Roll Museum – Small but Full of Surprises
This was a proper hidden gem. The Irish Rock & Roll Museum is packed with memorabilia, instruments, stories and—shockingly—links to some of the biggest names in the world.
Michael Jackson recorded here. U2. Def Leppard. You walk through live rehearsal rooms, old studios and quirky artefacts that make you realise just how much global music has passed through Dublin.
Temple Bar – Yes It’s Expensive… But You HAVE To
Temple Bar is one of those places where your wallet winces but your heart wins.
The atmosphere is unbeatable: buzzing pubs, people spilling into the streets, musicians everywhere, and that “we’re definitely in Dublin now” feeling.
We paid the Dublin prices, we laughed about it… and honestly? The memory is worth it every time.
Irish Live Music – The Heart of the City
You simply can’t beat live Irish music.
Every pub has someone singing, playing, storytelling, and pulling you into the rhythm of the night. Fiddles, guitars, harmonies and pure joy – it’s impossible not to smile. Dublin’s nightlife is a full-on experience, not just a drink.
Hop-On Hop-Off Bus – The Best Way to See Everything
We always recommend a hop-on hop-off bus for a city break, and Dublin’s might be the funniest one yet.
Our driver was full of jokes, Irish banter and little stories about the city that you just wouldn't hear anywhere else. It’s the easiest way to get around, learn the history, and tick off the main spots without walking 10 miles a day. Perfect for first-time visitors.
Trinity College – Beauty, History & Calm in the City
We took a slow walk around Trinity College, and it’s honestly stunning.
Old stone buildings, quiet courtyards, and that classic University charm. It’s peaceful, historic, and gives you a moment to breathe between pints. Even without touring the library, it's worth strolling through.
Final Thoughts – Dublin Has Our Hearts
This trip reminded us why we love Dublin so much.
Friendly people, incredible music, great food, easy exploring and a mix of modern buzz and old charm—it never disappoints.
For a quick birthday getaway, a couple’s escape, or a 2–3 night city break, Dublin is spot-on.
It’s a city that feels alive, welcoming, and always ready to make your next memory.
Would I recommend it?
Absolutely.
It has mine and my wife’s hearts, and I’d go back again tomorrow.
